A ghazal, in brief, is a poetry form consisting of a dozen couplets (or less) in the same
meter. Rules govern the rhythm of the ghazal, setting the mood and tone of the poem.
Originating in Persia in the 10th century AD, the ghazal is usually (but not always) written
in Urdu.
